Art Beyond the Ink
Fueled by the belief that every piece of music tells a story, Art Beyond the Ink (ABI) is an arts education organization which supports students and early-career artists through musical storytelling and interdisciplinary collaboration. Co-founded in 2020 by Emmalie Tello and Rebecca Schifilliti, ABI is a part of in- and after-school programs across New York City and is an active partner to the New York Public Library. In summer of 2020, ABI released its first musical storytelling workbook, Hearing and Seeing Musical Stories: The Story-Filled Tool for Understanding What You Hear, which teaches children musical concepts through short stories and interactive exercises to enhance self-expression, emotional learning, and development of a personal narrative. Along with educational programs and curriculum, ABI produces short films that have been screened at The Backyard at Hudson Yards. In 2021, they launched the first season of EXPO: New Works Competition, which awarded each winning composer the opportunity to have their music used in a short film.
